Read full description of the books:
Over the years and since having become a mommy I have read many books on raising children. However, there is one book that I recently read that stands out from all of the rest. This is the book that I recommend and sincerely wish that all Christian families would read. It is called “Family Driven Faith” by Voddie Baucham Jr. I loved this book and it quickly rose to the top of my favorite’s list because of the impact it had on our life as a family.
The book is based on Deuteronomy 6. This is a wonderful chapter that teaches us to pursue a wholehearted commitment to God’s Word along with the importance of teaching His Word to our children every day and throughout the day. This sets the foundation for multi-generational faithfulness toward God in families & gives our children a strong Biblical worldview.
I did not think this book was a complicated read. I found it to be challenging, convicting and exciting. It places strong emphasis on our duty as parents to Biblically train our children in everything we do in life. There is no room for laziness or the doling out of responsibility when it comes to the importance of teaching God’s ways to them.
There are what would be considered a couple controversial topics in the book: Homeschooling and the age-segregated church. Dr. Baucham is a strong advocate of homeschooling. I agreed with everything he had to say on that topic. The other topic he addresses is today’s age-segregated church structure which he does not support. I do think he presents his argument very well but, at the same time, I also support the church’s ministries in the nursery, children’s classes and teen group programs.
Overall, I came away greatly encouraged to be diligent and disciplined in doing what it takes to raise Godly children and determined to teach God’s word and ways in everything we do.
If your child’s spiritual development is of any importance to you, I would encourage you to read this book!

Read information about the authorVoddie Baucham wears many hats. He is a husband, father, pastor, author, professor, conference speaker and church planter. He currently serves as Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, TX. He has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, TX, and Union University in Jackson, TN. He has also lectured at Southern Seminary.
Voddie makes the Bible clear and demonstrates the relevance of God’s word to everyday life. However, he does so without compromising the centrality of Christ and the gospel. Those who hear him preach find themselves both challenged and encouraged.
Voddie’s area of emphasis is Cultural Apologetics. Whether teaching on classical apologetic issues like the validity and historicity of the Bible, or the resurrection of Christ; or teaching on biblical manhood/ womanhood, marriage and family, he helps ordinary people understand the significance of thinking and living biblically in every area of life.
It is impossible to understand Voddie’s approach to the Bible without first understanding the path he has walked. Raised in a non-Christian, single-parent home, Voddie did not hear the gospel until he was in college. His journey to faith was a very unusual and intellectual one. Consequently, he understands what it means to be a skeptic, and knows what it’s like to try to figure out the Christian life without relying on the traditions of men. As a result, he speaks to ‘outsiders’ in ways few Bible teachers can.
Voddie Baucham holds degrees from Houston Baptist University (BA in Christianity/BA in Sociology), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min.), an honorary degree from Southern California Seminary (D.D.), and additional post-graduate study at the University of Oxford, England (Regent’s Park College).
Voddie and his wife, Bridget have been married since 1989. They have six children, Jasmine, Trey (Voddie, III), Elijah, Asher, Judah, and Micah. They are committed home educators.
